Bernhard Meuser leaves the YOUCAT Foundation gGmbH

The YOUCAT Foundation gGmbH will manage without its founder and head author Bernhard Meuser (70) in future. He has left the Catholic book publisher at the end of 2023.

Bernhard Meuser, founder, head author and “father of YOUCAT”, was born near Mainz in 1953. He studied theology, German language and literature and earned his first professional credits at Bergmoser & Höller Verlag in Aachen, where he worked as an editor for various publications. In 1989, he was honored with the Catholic Journalism Prize. In 1993, Meuser became theological editor in chief at Weltbild Verlag and publishing director of Pattloch-Verlag. In addition to his work as publishing director and managing director of several publishing houses in the Droemer-Knaur publishing group and at Augsburg-based St. Ulrich Verlag, Meuser has also repeatedly emerged as an author. In 2014, he was awarded the Buvina- Medal in Split, Croatia, for “services to Christian culture in Europe”. After working for the YOUCAT Foundation for many years, Meuser is now going into well deserved retirement. Meuser has not only shaped the YOUCAT Foundation’s publishing program with his numerous publications, but has also networked people worldwide and brought them together in book projects.

In his publishing career, Meuser has written, supervised and published many publications that have received international recognition. The “YOUCAT. Youth Catechism of the Catholic Church” has been translated into over 60 languages and is one of the best-selling Catholic books. His close collaboration with representatives of the Catholic Church, as well as his numerous friendships with committed Christians from all over the world, have significantly influenced and shaped his publications.

“We are very grateful to Bernhard Meuser for his tireless and fruitful work for YOUCAT and wish him all the best and God’s blessing for his retirement,” commented Guido Gröning, CEO of the YOUCAT Foundation, on his departure.

The YOUCAT Foundation gGmbH supports people who live their Catholic faith and pass it on. It aims to support people on their journey of faith and provide them with materials for proclaiming the Gospel. Its office is located in Königstein im Taunus. This is where new book ideas are developed, the worldwide publishing business is coordinated, new translations are initiated and the dispatch of the productions is coordinated. Some titles from the publishing program have been published in over 60 languages.
